I've read everything I can find, but I'm still looking for a little advice. I've been happy with the 4.5". We've seen bands on Jupiter, rings around Saturn, and a faint fuzzy blob of Andromeda. I'd like to see the big red spot, more ring definition, some detail in a galaxy or nebula.
Both the Orion XT10 dobsonian and the SkyView Deluxe 8" EQ (for the same price) seem attractive. How much does the "modest focal length" (800 and 1255) hurt. I'm not too worried about size or weight. I have no trouble with an equatorial mount and might like to try taking some pictures. Does the 8 or even 10 inches do any more for me than bring in stuff that is just invisible to the 4.5"?
I like the simplicity, and apparent lower cost of reflectors over refractors or combos, but is that a false impression on my part?
Could I see what I've mentioned above with either of these Orion scopes? |
