Ptolemy and a few other were responsible for the Constellation names like Orion, Aquarius, Taurus and so on. Other constellation were named later. Star names were basically originated by the Arabics. Alnath, Algol, Saiph, etc. Some of the names were Greek and Roman. Planets weren`t realy considered planets until after the invention of the Telescope in the 16th century. Basically the rule of thumb was to name all major planetary bodies after Roman/Greek gods. The other names came much later..Pluto for instance wasn`t named Pluto until its` discovery in the 30`s. Folks back then didn`t even know what a planet was. Even Earth. In those days the ground was called "Terra" or latin "Terra Firma which is earth in Latin" later to be called Earth the planet. Go to a search engine and type in Ancient+Astronomy....you will get some hits I`m sure. Good Luck!!
