The setting circles on the less expensive mounts are not very accurate. I would find another way of navigation with your scope. Go to the library or one of the large booksellers (Barnes & Noble or Books a Million or Amazon .com) and get Left Turn at Orion or one of the other books on Navigating the sky with a telescope.

When you land on a Messier object in a 4.5" scope you`ll notice it immediatly, provided you are viewing from a reasonably dark site.

Join your local Astronomy club!!. there will be people there eager to help you learn the sky!
