Starman is correct in the purposes of each scope. The EQ can be utilized in tracking and astrophotography. If your needs are simple and just want to "cruise" the stars, then a Dob would be the best choice. However, from past experiences, many people start with a Dob (which is fine) and later want to start taking pictures, which a Dob is totally unsuited for. One suggestion is this: If you get the Dobs, you can use a barn door to take pictures or...get the EQ mounted 8"/f4 (slow focus) just in case you get the shutterbug itch, which seems to happen to 98% of us anyway. Either scope will do fine. Each scope has their restrictions and advantages like all scopes. Have fun and clear skies!!
