Both scopes will show you everything that you want to see and both are excellent instruments.
The thing to think about is what you want to do in the hobby. The Dobsonian is good for viewing but is difficult to make track, the EQ is equatorial mounted so can be made to track fairly easily so therefore it can be used for photography sometime in the future, with the fast f4 focal ratio it is also good for photography, the draw back to the EQ is because it is f4 it needs to be properly collimated which isn`t hard to do and Orion has a collimating eyepiece for $37.95 also the tracking drive is a accessory which will add to the cost.
My suggestion is if you only want to view get the dob., if you may want to someday take photos get the EQ.
