.965 focusers come on cheap department store telescopes & take cheap .965 eyepieces.

(the exception I know of would be the Takahashi & pentax Orthoscopic short focal length eyepieces that are .965 but they cost $150-$200 each)

1.25" focusers are the standard size on most beginner scopes and sonotube dobsonian scopes.they use use the MUCH better 1.25" format eyepieces.

Most high end telescopes will have a 2" focuser and the capability to use both 1.25" and 2" eyepieces.

Most telescopes (except for refractors) can be upgraded to a 2" focuser or 2" capability fairly easily.

If your telescope uses .965 eyepieces I would suggest you use it for now & save your money to get a better telescope that uses 1.25" eyepieces.

Preferably a newtonian reflector. This will allow you to get a larger aperature scope. Since a newtonian costs less per inch of aperature than a refractor. The larger the aperture the better.
