5" MCT Vs. 8" SCT & ETX-125 Questions

I am planning to purchase a Meade ETX-125 or an 8" SCT, and I have a coupe of questions/concerns. I would appreciate any input I can get.

1. I heard that that ETX-125 has a long vibration dampening time. Would the $350 heavy duty tripod (vs deluxe tripod $200), or the $120 electric focuser solve this problem best?

2. I am in San Francisco, where sky conditions are humid (if not foggy :), and usually less than perfect for viewing. Would an 8" SCT be too large for such conditions?

3. What do I sacrifice by going with a 5" MCT such as the ETX-125 compared with an 8" SCT? What will I "miss" or not be able to see with the 5" that I could see with the 8"?

Thank you very much...
