I fiured it out, if you divide the focal length by the aperture you should get the focal ratio, (according to what I have read). This should give the Celestron g8n a focal ratio of f/10. : I am also new and have been searching for several weeks for a 1st scope. I have found a plethora of useful information out there including this site. : Try these links. : The top 2 have specific focal lenght descriptions. The bottom one just alot of good information. : http://www.celestron.com/basics.htm : http://www.meade.com/catalog/lx/63vs10.html : http://www.astronomics.com/Content/frames/frames11.htm : : BTW the only G-8n I see at Celestrons website is a 1000mm (f/5) : : ,Blink
