: It seems from what I’ve read in this forum that most people tend to lean more towards 8"s rather than the 10"s, Is there a reason for this.. Is it mainly the difference in cost vs. performance, or it something else? It looks like the Meade lx50 is the only choice for a non-computerized scope (in a Schmidt-Cassegrains design). How much better would a 10" scopes visuals be compared to an 8"?

When you talk about size, don't forget the other part of the equation: weight. Many folks put the 8" as the upper limit because of the still good portability. Don't forget, the best scope is the one that gets used. JMHO
