: The battery pack is an alternative power source. You can use a 9 volt : in the controller but the battery pack holds a larger supply (45 hours of : continuous use if I recall). I'm not sure of the two labeled areas, : however. Mine uses only AA (ten in total). One reason it might not be : working with the battery pack is when you first plug it in you must set : your hemisphere on the control (hit left for northern, right for southern). : Hope I've been some help.
