In response to your question I have looked in several resources. The answer is no, not only could this system not support life, it could not support planets. Alpha Centauri is a trinary star system, and one of the stars is a redgiant. A redgiant is a mature star and has a gravitational pull to great to disallow planets from orbiting. Also no system with more than one star can, support planets. |
