Is it better to buy a new good eyepiece of a magnification +- 2 x (Meade or Vixen), or use a good barlow lense(Meade), with regard to the quality of the resulting image ?

What is the fundamental difference in the way a lens and a barlow work ?

Thx for any advice or idea .

Chris
