The Televue Powermate is nothing more than a barlow lens, a very good one. Compared to most Barlows, the 5X is very powerful indeed. Using it for photography is equivalent to using eyepiece projection with a 5X magnifying factor. The optical image will probably be better with the Powermate unless the eyepiece you use for photography is specifically corrected for eyepiece projection. With the Powermate in use, the camera is used as it would be for direct prime focus photography. I hope this answers your question. If not, feel free to contact me.
