One point while I'm incubating my overdue reply
(for which I hope expectations of quality will be realistically moderate):

This topic, as important as it is, may be worth
further cogitation. We might establish a continuum: how much does someone understand mathematics or not understand it?
Someone mentioned matrix math as a threshold.
I studied that in 1978, voluntarily, but kept falling asleep in class due to my heavy schedule
including 48+ hours a week in an industrial environment and several other courses. I still
received a B in that course, but I think it was the most inflated grade I ever received. I probably understood at a C+ level. Or maybe my subconcious was getting answers right on the test that my conscious mind couldn't quite retain.

Do you think folks who have math panic or lack of course work but good hardwiring
(and who concede math is necessary to the task)
can understand your paper?

And lastly, while I'm thinking: I simply did not know which operations were being performed in
Equations 1.27. If I knew the word that each squiggle represented, I'd at least be able to say the equation. I was going to take that to my local math department but haven't yet. So I offer apologies for being a poor corresondent in some ways.
