Dick,

Okay, I have a better understanding of what you are talking about. How about if we revise (6) as follows:

***6. It is possible to label all 'things' with a number if we can identify those 'things' for discussion. 'Dead horses' are excluded.

This meets the criteria which I think you are targeting:

"For example, you said "(t)he only possibility is that you believe there exist things you can believe in which cannot be referred to in any way. If that is the case then I say we cannot discuss them! You are beating a dead horse."

Since we are not talking about 'things' that cannot be referred to in any way (the 'dead horse' as you call it), therefore the dead horse must be excluded from (6). I can agree to that condition.
