I only use binoculars for the occasional glimpse. I would like a telescope but doubt I'd use an expensive one often enough to want to bother.
The problem in the UK is light pollution. I was toying with the idea of converting an old car into something I can take to the hills with now and again.
Since I just happen to have a Ford Sierra estate standing idle I may do this:
Take ot the back seat and move the front passenger seat to the rear with some sot of extension on the tracks or a refix of the originals.
The car has a sunroof so I will fix some sort of cleat beside it to mount whatever I choose to buy.
It could even go on the roof rack come to think of it. What sort of weight would I be looking at? I would probably buy a cheapish telescope less than £500 -probably half that.
It would have to be taken down before and after obviously. So it mustn't mind a lot of bungling around. And of course I want to be able to view it from the car seat whilst listening to my radio etc.
I like my creature comforts and I may even go as far as bringing the coolant water into the car. Perhaps piping it to a drum where the front seat was?
I don't mind a little aberration or whatever it's called as I will only be using it occasionally and not for fine work just to marvel at the hand of God. |
