I do mainly deep sky observing. It is 12" aperture. I spend all night looking at Galaxies, Planetary nebulas and Globular cluster. Those are my favorites. I do look at open clusters when there's nothing else around. I don't have a clear view of the whole sky from my backyard. When the Moon is full or close to it, I look at double stars for hours. I look at the planets from time to time during the course of the evening. That includes Nepture and Uranus. The SCT is great for all observing. So are most scopes. Just because you read one scope is better for planets dosen't mean you can't use it for deep sky and vic-versa.
