Although I don't have much experience evaluating
these things, the mirror appears looks good to
me (no scratches, very bright reflection). However, I would like to limit my expenses until
I know if the telescope will work (although, after
investigating this the past week, I think I'll buy a new one, if this one doesn't work out).

Clearly, I'll need an eyepiece. However, is a
finder scope necessary to determine if the
telescope works (currently there isn't one)?
Also, on the Orion page, I saw some reasonably
priced collimators ($35 for optical, $65 for laser). Would one of these be a worthwhile
investment? I haven't been able to find a local
astronomy club.

Thanks again,

Tom
