Many of the older visual backs for SCT's (both Celestron and Meade) had a narrow opening that didn't allow a full 2-inch light path. The "eye opener," and now probably several others, have fixed that problem. I guess the older visual backs were made for 8-inch scopes, which don't have a full 2-inch central hole in the mirror, and until recently no one had bothered to take advantage of the larger cenral hole on larger scopes. Duh.
