You will have to spend many thousands of dollars to get a CCD with as wide a field and as much resolution for deep-sky photography as you can get with a 35mm camera. Look at the ads for SBIG's cameras. Note how few of them approach the 3000 by 2000 pixels or more you can get from 35mm film.
One item of equipment I forgot to mention was an illuminated-reticle eyepiece. You'll need that if you're not buying a CCD to guide the photos.
