Changing From CG5 To Fork Mount?

I've been reading the posts concerning the constant side rotations using the CG5 eq mount. Is the fork mount a better idea? I star hop and never use the eq setting rings. I just level the scope then align with Polaris and then NCP and go.

On occasion I do need some direction to a object. I hate the RA and Dec settings. I'd rather use the altitude and azmuith conversions using a compass and home made sextant for altitude.

Are the fork mounts considered the older type of mounts? If they are the better mount for a Celestron SCT 8" G8 then does anybody know how to convert them over and where to buy the equipment? Would it be too expensive? Has anyone done this?

I'm doing a Star Party club vs club Fast Messier 100 on March 16th at Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky.

Scott
