Colour Filter On A CCD

Hello all,

I was wondering if you could help me with a question I have about colour filters on CCD's:

For a CCD that is using a bayer colour filter on top of the pixel array, i have seen two different ways that this has been arranged:

1.) with each pixel having an individual colour filter (i.e. Red, Green, OR Blue) assigned to it, like in this wiki below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayer_filter

2.)with EACH pixel assigned FOUR different colour filters (One red, one blue, and two green), like this:

http://micro.magnet.fsu.edu/primer/digitalimaging/concepts/frametransfer.html

is either one of these wrong, or are they both correct but simply different ways of going about integrating colour into the image?

help will be appreciated,
regards,
howard
