The big bang and the spacetime it created is the universe. Another way to look at is that the gravitational field is spacetime and it is also the universe. No one has the foggiest idea what occurred at the big bang or if anything existed before it. All physical laws break down at the infinities of the singularity. And until a theory of quantum gravity is developed there is no way to even speculate about these concepts |
