: What is zero point energy?

The Heisenberg uncertainty principle state that you cannot know both the position and momentum of a particle precisely. If a particle or a field were to lose all energy then you would know both the position and momentum exactly and therefore this is forbidden. Zero point energy is therefore the minumun energy a system can have wihtout violating the HUP.

The first answer you recieved was complete nonsense.
