It's intriguing that the Bible speaks of God "stretching" out space as if it were some sort of fabric. And Genesis 1, the creation account itself, teaches that God expanded space during the period in which He created the universe (Gen. 1:6-8,14-17):

6 Then God said, "Let there be an expanse [Heb. 'raqia,' and so on throughout the chapter] in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters." 7 And God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above . . . . 8 And God called the expanse heaven ['shamayim,' lit. heavens]. . . . . 14 Then God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens . . . . 16 And God made the two great lights . . . ; the stars also. 17 And God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth . . . .
