: well the singularity is to my understanding infinite so how can it become MOre massive??

in order for a black hole to form, it needs a star of at least 3 solar masses (right?) So, if one does form and then continues to draw in matter over a period of time ( a second star, planets, dust, etc) would that not expand the event horizon? (just like a larger, more massive planet would have a larger gravity well than a smaller, less massive planet)
