Black Hole Vs Matter Question

I would like to ask a question..

After reading a brief article on Black Holes it stated that "Singularity was a region of infinite density within a black hole where matter was crushed out of existence.."

I have a huge interest in space but unfortunately was not granted the gift of being able to grasp some of the higher concepts and my attempts to read about these subjects didn't help..

So please be kind in laughing at me in your response.. but I thought it was accepted that it is fundementally impossible to create or destroy matter??
