Not because gravwaves are quite weak (say, rising pipe in 1 sec radiates less than 10^-50 Joules of gravwaves), but because pressure in water moves with the speed of sound, and it is the pressure difference which slows down water flow (and water stops far not as fast as the pressure wave travels across water pipe - because large amount of water is moving in the pipe, its kinetic energy turns into potential energy of overflowing water gradually slowing water colomn in the pipe). |
