Well, if the Standard Model is correct there pretty much has to be a graviton. Now, there's no guarantee that the Standard Model is correct but it's more likely that the graviton is there, but the bariers to detecting these massless (apparently a constraint of the theory) particles are formidable. Presumably, like light, gravity can be thought of as a particle or a wave depending upon the context, which to me, anyway, is lgically unsatisfying in the extreme but better than the alternative. |
