Maybe it's just me, but my experience has been that universities are where you find rational discourse, not where it is discouraged. Strange and new ideas are welcome as long as there is some indication of truth in them. And of course, new assertions are expected to be proven, which I find to be a very rational requirement.

Good story about the ducks, by the way.
