Authors have been making unfounded accusations about Einstein for years. Your comment "... which as you say were built on other peoples work anyway." tells me that you agree with the other guys statement "....If the special relativity is right. Lorentz is the father of special relativity, and general relativity...". Somebody saying that 'Lorentz is the father of General Relativity' just says that person doesn't have a clue about General relativity. Einstein never claimed to be the first to have predicted that c is a constant or to have developed the transformation equation which would allow Maxwell's equation to maintain their form in coordinate transformations, etc. etc... The principle of relativity existed long before Special relativity. From Kip Thorne, Black Holes and Time Warps, "...faced with the scientific and technological triumphs of Newtonian physics, triumphs grounded firmly on the foundation of absolute time, nobody was willing to assert with conviction that time really does dilate. Lorentz, Poincare, and Larmor waffled." Michelson did his experiment in 1881 (I think that was the year Einstein was born) and he and Morley revisited with more accuracy in 1887. There was plenty of time for physicists to muster up the 'balls' to challenge Newton's paradigm. They all waffled except for Einstein ~ 20 years later. As for General Relativity only being understood by a handfull of people-thats total bs.
