Gravitons (if they exist) and virtual photons might have some similar properties. They would both have 0 rest mass and they both would be force carrying particles. If the graviton is a virtual particle then it would be able to travel faster than the speed of light within limits set by the uncertainty principle. Such as being able to tunnel and escape the event horizon. If string theory is correct then gravitons must exist.
