: Is space curved, or is it warped, as some theorists like Stephen Hawking propose. Can wormholes exist if space is warped ? : Oh, and does anyone out there think that jumpgates represent a possible hypothesis for interstellar travel ? Please comment. I'm new to this.

Space is curved by strong gravatational fields, and strong magnetic fields. Hence all matter curves space in some way. The sun curves space-time so that the planets of the solar system sort of roll round it like if a large weight was placed isn the middle of a suspended rubber sheet.

Worholes as i see are holes in spacetime, hence it doesn't matter whether space is curved or not.

As to using jump-gates to travel, check out this homepage, it has specualtion about a W.H.I.P drive (Wormhole Induction Propolsion): www.stardrive.net.org
