re - I don`t know of any theory which has been as successful as GR in predicting such things as starlight bending. - Oddly enough the deflection of light was predicted by Soldner, based on Newtoniann gravity, back in 1801! He predicted the same value that Einstein did in 1911. Of course both were off by a factor of 2.
