RE: How Good Is GR?

I don`t know of any theory which has been as successful as GR in predicting such things as starlight bending. As far as I know, GR has met every test successfully. The only area of controversy that I know of is in what happens in black holes, where it is necessary to marry GR with quantum mechanics - it doesn`t work!
A while ago, there were other variations of GR that were proposed, but they seemed to have been discarded. The main open question has to do with the "cosmological constant", which Einstein originally proposed to avoid the expanding universe, and thought it was a mistake. However, current observations about the universe expansion rate seem to show a need for one.
