The bending can also be explined in terms of a varying speed of light.

Light deflection is a result of the space being non-Euclidean. A similar situation happens with a cosmic string. However the spacetime isn`t curved in that case. However the space is non-Euclidean. The space is conical in that its similar to the surface of a cone.
