good luck to you. about three years ago, I began following the same path you have choosen, its wonderfully rewarding. and through my new found understanding (all be it rudimentary)of physics amd mathmatics I have fallen in love with the universe. It is SO worth it! I hope you have found the help you were searching for, i regret may aboved mentioned "understanding" is simple at best and I am by no means in a posistion to guide or teach. i'm writing merely to wish you luck- on you quest and on your book! I'll keep an eye out for it....
