We call it the 'event horizion' because that's the point where ,supposedly, we won't be able to see events that are happening. But using mathematics we can theorize what's happening beyond that point. And another thing, the cosmologist Stephen Hawkings theorized that it's possible for particles to come out of a black hole. This is so because, according to quantum physics, every bit of matter has every possible 'history'(or, every speed & direction a particle 'could' travel, it 'can' travel). So a particle could actually go faster that light and escape the gravity of the black hole. This particle discharge is called Hawking Radiation.
