Blackholes Point Of Draw(suck)

If a black hole is a large enough mass to pull other mass even light, then were would it in theory suck in from. In all these shows it is shown almost as 2 dimensional, but wouldn't it in theory be a ball that draws in matter all the way around it, on all sides and angles.so rather than matter entering the O it just gets pulled towards the point.
