High tides occur twice a day (approx.), once when we are facing the moon and the other when the moon is facing the opposite side of the earth. There are complications, due to the fact that the ocean doesn't respond instantly to the changing moon position as the earth rotates. High tides are max. when the moon and sun are lined up (new moon or full moon), and min at half moons. Ok, I follow that, but what I am wondering is, do we see a measurable difference in the tides at new and full moons. Do new and full coincide with apogee, and perigee?
