: Sounds pretty complicated........The way I see it in my simplified non-mathemitcal terms is that the event horizon always expands when something falls into the blackhole. So as the first atoms fall in...... the black hole will expand and "gulp-up" a few more. Then more and more until the metal sheet is gone and you're left with a larger blackhole. I am, of course, ignoring air particles (say it was done in space) and the Hawking Effect (may be irrelevant to a basketball sized hole anyway because it'd take to long to cause a noticible effect). I may be totaly wrong but that's my first guess when I thought about it. Let me know....... Once an object is within 1.5 R_s there is no stable orbit available and everything within will be dragged into the hole |
