: The time dilation effect near a gravitating mass is very real. If space were marked out by a set of fixed clocks, those located where gravity is strong would - to a distant observer - run slow; conversely, distant clocks would run fast when viewed by observers near the gravitating mass.

: At the EH time the time dilation would be infinite and to distant observers the clocks located there would stop. This is not just an observation effect - time really does stop, - and nothing can enter the hole.

I can sympathize with your inquiry and frustration with this paradox, for I myself have stupored over the issue many many months. : )

however, I would like to bring in the realization that an EH, similar to the expanding horizon of our universe, is causally disconnected from our coordinate time.

Inasmuch as the boundary conditions set up with our expanding universe are real, and the space beyond the "apparent" boundary is real, the BH's EH is likewise real within its own FOR. Just because our coordinate time is causally disconnected, due to space stretching and the global effects that occur, does not mean that temporal events don't occur; only that we have no way of observing them due to the, sometime severe, curvature of space.
