: WHY and to what benefit

For one simple reason, if you could do it, you could travel from this end of the universe to the other in no time at all and also having no difference in time or a time parodox occuring on earth while you were gone, you could bend space time which could be used as an ENORMOUS means of propulsion, faster than anything, even making it possible for mass to go faster than the speed of light, relativily.
