Nice page of rambling from the previous respondent. The event horizon is called the Schwarzschild radius. Basically in theory no matter or light can be seen or escape from the other side of the event horizon. So the event horizon divides space and time into 2 distinct regions. 1/The exterior events we can see and 2/ the interior events that are hidden for ever. If you want to know more I can recommend a good book written by Paul Davis called The Edge Of Infinity. Beyond the black hole
