mark explained it all wrong, the paradox is not that the twin brother/sister on earth could have died before the other twin returns, but the fact that the space twin thinks time on earth goes slower, since from his point of view it is moving away at an enormous speed. however, when he returns, he sees that time on earth actually went faster. that is the paradox.
