Why would it take infinate time to create a singularity? Can you comprehend the forces that just must be going crazy inside there? Here is what I think a singularity is....a hole in space-time...to where I am not sure. But that is how a singularity could occur. Did you know that if you were to fall into a black hole, it would take a split second from your point of view, but from an observers point of view, you would fall into it for eternity.
