Do you understand why?

We need a model which will predict actual results.

How about this...

The electron is a combintion of a particle and a field around it.

The field will be cliped as the electron goes through the slots. The particle will go through one of the slots but the field is now in the form of a defraction pattern instead of a sphere. The deformed field alters the course of the electrons toward the high field density areas and the electrons strike the sensor as if the particles at the center of the electorn have experienced defraction themselves.
