The Elegant Universe, which is based on string theory which is primarily a quantum theory, has a picture of how a new universe is created when matter density becomes sufficiently high in side a black hole. In addition the Italian school of string theorists have used super string theory to determine what happened before the big bang, thus showing that the singularity in the GR version of the big bang is non-existant.
