WHAT IS TEH DEAL WITH BLACK HOLES?

If nothing can escape the gravity of a black hole how can we dect radition and know that thety spew out materail.

(oh for a joke kinda- i was watching an old 70's program on black holes and they said we can dect a faint light emited from the center of a black hole) isnt the point of a BLACK hole no light can escape HAHAHAHAHA
