The solution to your problem is the effect on time. To the outside observer, the object becoming a black hole takes forever to form, while objects falling in take forever to get to the event horizon. The gravitational effect on the outside is that of the object becoming a black hole. It appears black because the radiation from the about to become black hole is extremely red-shifted. |
